Purpose and tasks

Biosphere Reserve "Askania Nova" Reports publishes articles devoted to the issues of reserve management and studies, conservation of the natural diversity, biology, ecology, protection of rare species of plants and animals in the natural and simulated habitat, steppe natural management, edaphology, introduction, and reintroduction.

The journal’s purpose is to show research findings of the scientific staff of the Biosphere Reserve “Askania Nova” and other conservation areas of the north Black Sea region in the areas of reserve management and studies, bioecology, genetics, plant physiology, applied botany, hydrobiology, and zoology.

The above purpose determines the key tasks:

- to contribute to long-term and large-scale periodical studies to find out the causes of changes in the natural processes using the example of the Biosphere Reserve “Askania Nova”;

- to elucidate the results of the studies of a zoological component of eco-systems of the Biosphere Reserve “Askania Nova” both in terms of identification of biological diversity and its functional role under the influence of endodynamic and general global processes;

- to facilitate the creation of an open information environment that ensures the interaction between leading specialists and young scientists in the areas of reserve management and studies, bioecology, genetics, plant physiology, applied botany, hydrobiology, and zoology;

- to contribute to the development of scientific heritage for the next generations of researchers of the Biosphere Reserve “Askania Nova” and other conservation areas of the north Black Sea region.
