MORPHOLOGICAL STUDIES OF A LEAF BLADE SPECIES OF THE GENUS CROCUS L. IN THE FLORA OF UKRAINE

The results of studying the morphological features of a leaf blade of 7 taxa of the genus Crocus L. (Iridaceae Juss.) in the flora of Ukraine (Crocus angustifolius Weston, C. heuffelianus Herb., C. tauricus (Trautv.) Puring, C. reticulatus Steven ex Adams, C. speciosus M. Bieb., C. pallasii Goldb. and C. banaticus J. Gay) are presented from the collection of the M.M. Grishko National Botanical Garden (NBG) of NAS of Ukraine. Through the difficulty of identifying of single species without flowers, we studied sections of leaf blades. In cross-section, saffron leaves have unique shapes. In the central part there is a keel consisting of large parenchymal cells, and the edges of the leaf are symmetrical in all taxa. The revealed morphological differences in the leaf structure of species of the Crocus genus can be considered diagnostic and used as additional features with further refinement of the taxonomic composition of the genus, and also with the establishment of phylogenetic links within it.
